Get your hands on some Virgil Abloh goodness
The second Off-White x Converse collaboration is here—and it’s somehow even bolder and more eye-catching than one might expect. Virgil Abloh’s go-to aesthetic for his Nike and Converse sneakers has always skewed deconstructed and minimalist. (His first Converse collab was tonal, semi-transparent, and straight to the point.) But these new Converse kicks, which are dropping on October 8, make use of the designer’s familiar motif in striking new ways.
Abloh’s latest interpretation of the Chuck 70 features only three colors—white, black, and orange—yet it still looks and feels rather ornate. Off-White’s distinctive black-and-white diagonal stripes have been added to the midsole; the bottom of the sole is a bright enough shade of orange to pull a shift on a construction site. Some of Abloh’s familiar signatures are at play, too: the shiny plastic zip tie, labeled shoelaces, and bold typographical screen print. Yet, for all the changes Abloh has made to the iconic sneaker, he’s also kept some things exactly the same, like Converse’s vintage canvas construction and the quintessential “All Star” patch.
Despite the fact that the Nike and Converse partnership with Abloh shows no signs of slowing down, this sneaker comes in limited quantities—which, as usual, means getting a pair won't be easy. According to Converse, you can sign up for a Nike+ account and visit Converse.com on October 8 for a chance to buy. Limited quantities will also be sold at Converse’s Boston and New York flagship stores—or you can always go the raffle route. To give you a head start, we've compiled a list of stores that will be stocking and raffling the Off-White x Converse Chuck Taylor 70 below.
